Chariot Privacy Policy

This privacy policy governs the use of your personal information by Chariot Ridesharing Limited (Chariot). This privacy policy should be read in conjunction with Chariot’s Terms of Use (and any capitalised terms not defined here carry the same meaning as in the Terms of Use).

  1. About Chariot

    The Chariot mobile Application (App) provides a mobile platform that connects drivers with spare seats in their vehicles for a journey (Drivers) with people seeking to travel in the same direction or to the same destination as the Driver (Passengers). Chariot (we) take the privacy and security of the information that Drivers and Passengers (you) provide us seriously. In this Privacy Policy (the Policy) we describe how we collect, use and disclose information that we obtain about our users.

  2. Information We Collect

    1. User information

      Chariot collects user information when you set up a Chariot account, including:

      1. your name, address and date of birth;

      2. your email address;

      3. a mobile phone number;

      4. your credit card details;

      5. a user identification (ID) and password;

      6. your Device identifier and customer identifier (including UDID);

      7. a profile picture;

      8. a copy of a valid identification document (driver licence, passport, birth certificate); and

      9. if you are a driver:

        1. details of your driver’s licence;

        2. your bank account details;

        3. vehicle information;

        4. vehicle registration number; and

        5. a photograph of your vehicle; and

      10. any other information you supply to us through the App or the Website.

    2. Communication

      To help us better perform ride sharing services, we may keep a record of user communication with Chariot. This includes:

      1. messages that you send to Chariot;

      2. any responses that you give to our surveys or questionnaires;

      3. information you provide relating to a problem with the App.

    3. Financial Information

      Chariot may collect and retain financial information related to your use of the App such as your credit card, debit card or bank details and a record of the transactions entered into through the App. We do this so that we can process payments for ride sharing services, and keep financial records.

    4. Geolocation Data

      Chariot will ask you to share location information from your Device. Providing Chariot with your geolocation data allows Chariot to connect you with drivers and allows us to determine the location and distance of the rides that you take. If you do not provide geolocation data, you will not be able to experience the full functionality of the App.

    5. Transport Metrics

      Chariot may collect and retain information about the trips you take with us. This information may be shared with interested parties, such as government agencies and companies. Any personal information will be aggregated, removed or anonymised before sharing with third parties.

    6. Additional Information We Collect

      We may automatically collect information about your usage of the App. This includes access time, Device ID, language information, Device name and model, operating system information, your activities within the App, and the amount of time you logged in for.

      We may combine this information with other information collected from you and other users. This information will only be used for lawful purposes connected with the functions of the App or the provision of the Services.

    7. Social Media Sites

      Chariot may give you the option to sign up using your Facebook, Twitter or Google account. Chariot will not however, associate your account with your Chariot account unless you consent to this. If you sign up using your Facebook or Google account, Chariot will collect any personal information it can access through those sites.

    8. Provision of information is optional

      You do not have to provide us with any information. However, if you chose not to supply some of the information that we request you may not be able to use some or all of the features of the App. If certain information is not supplied, you may be unable to use the App or the Website at all.

  3. How We Use Your Information

    In general, Chariot uses the information we collect from you to provide and operate the ride sharing services through the App. We may also use the information:

    1. to personalise, customise and improve your experience and usage of the App;

    2. to send you notices and suggestions;

    3. to display relevant offers or deals to you;

    4. to collect any moneys owing from you;

    5. to conduct research to better understand how users use the App, in order to improve our services and respond to user desires and preferences and to conduct audits and troubleshooting activities;

    6. to conduct background checks of Passengers and Drivers;

    7. in any other way that helps us to verify accounts and activity, or to promote safety and security on the App or otherwise;

    8. for any other purposes directly related to the above purposes; and

    9. for any other purposes which you would reasonably expect, which we inform you of when we collect your personal information, or which we obtain your consent for.

  4. How We Share Your Information

    Chariot may share your information with third parties provided that this sharing is lawful. We may share some of your information with:

    1. any Driver (if you are a Passenger) or any Passenger (if you are a Driver) that you interact with or that interacts with you within the App;

    2. Datazoo, if you have opted to become a verified member;

    3. any other ID checking service used by Chariot to verify your personal information;

    4. any credit card verification company used by Chariot to verify your credit card details;

    5. any payment processing company that processes transactions made through the App;

    6. government agencies and companies, where the information is transport metrics, geolocation and / or demographic data;

    7. any person or entity, where disclosure of your information is required by law;

    8. a potential purchaser of some or all of the Chariot business or company;

    9. any agents, officers and advisers of Chariot; and

    10. any other third party, where sharing the information is lawful and related to the purposes for which the information was collected.

    Note that we may from time to time share your information with third parties located outside New Zealand.

  5. Storage And Security Of Personal Information

    Chariot takes reasonable steps to keep your personal information secure and to protect it from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure and from misuse, interference and loss. Any personal information that is collected through the App is protected by technical and procedural safeguards (our servers employ an SSL certificate with industry-standard 128-bit encryption and our API requires Tokenised authentication for access).

    Chariot will store your data only for so long as the information is required for the purposes for which the information may be lawfully used.

  6. Cookies

    The Chariot website uses cookies to collect information about your use of the website. This allows us to tailor our website to you and provide you with a better browsing experience. If you do not wish to use our website with cookies you can disable them in your internet browser.

  7. Accessing Your Personal Information

    You can manage your personal information via your account, which gives you the ability to correct any personal information that we store. You can delete your account at any time by contacting us through the App or at support@chariot.co.nz.

  8. Changes to this Policy

    We may change this Policy from time to time, so please be sure to check it periodically. Any changes to this Policy will apply from the time that they are made available to you via the App. If you do not agree to any change we make, you must stop using the App and the Website immediately.
